Only 2,150 of these beautiful cars were built, making it rare and desirable. This car was one of the best, the flashiest and most expensive convertible offered by Cadillac. All the gold trim, the gold grille and Cadillac script and gold Kelsey-Hayes Alcoa gold aluminum Sabre wheels announced to the world that you had arrived and could afford to pay the astonishing original list price of $6,501. The Eldorado Biarritz convertible had unique tailfins and taillights, another visible sign that this was and is a special car. Eldorado Biarritz convertibles were extremely well-equipped. Standard equipment included the 365ci dual-quad V8 engine with 305hp, Hydramatic transmission, power steering, power windows, power Hydraulic drum brakes, signal-seeking AM radio, heater, remote side mirror, Sabre wheels and heater/defroster. The Eldorado had special quarter-panel styling and additional chrome trim on the doors. It was all done so everyone knew you spent the extra money for one of the best, most unusual and stylish cars available. This car is beautifully finished in the original color scheme of Alpine White with red and white leather interior. It has a white power top with hard-shell parade boot. Cadillac renamed the Eldorado Convertible the Biarritz to differentiate it from the new Seville two-door hardtop coupe introduced in 1956. Both took their names from romantic European cities; Biarritz was a fashionable French seaside resort, and Seville a fabled old city in Spain. Eldorados featured a shark fin rear end, skirt-less wheel openings, chrome door top trim, and a distinctive twin blade hood ornament. Power steering, power brakes, power windows, power antenna, and power convertible top, along with a four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission, were included as standard features. Gorgeous Sabre wheels made their appearance on Eldorados for the second time. Cadillac’s V-8 engine was upsized to 365 cubic inches for 1956, and horsepower on Eldorados was increased to 305—20 more than other Cadillacs thanks to twin four-barrel carburetors under a unique gold "batwing" air cleaner. Together with his son, he owned a shop where they sold wheels, automobiles, motor bikes, and even lawn mowers, and also performed mechanical repairs. Together they worked on a 4-cylinder touring car that was planned to be sold as the Rockford. The project went nowhere, and instead they opened a Rambler automobile dealership. |
